End Points

Prognostic factors that correlate with an outcome variable must have clearly defined end points.9 These may relate to treatment efficacy, such as response to therapy, acute toxicity, or treatment failure within a given time; they may also relate to long-term results, such as relapse-free survival for patients who reach a complete remission, disease-free survival, treatment failure-free survival, overall or cause-specific survival, or cumulative probability of late toxicity (e.g., secondary malignancies). Variables that correlate with survival in Hodgkin's lymphoma are often nonspecific, such as age at diagnosis and gender.
