Renal Syndromes

A variety of renal syndromes have been observed in association with hematological neoplasms. Notably, nephrotic range proteinuria precedes the diagnosis of HD in many cases. A renal biopsy most commonly reveals minimal change disease.107 Unlike other para-neoplastic manifestations, this condition responds well to the treatment of the underlying malignancy; recurrence of proteinuria is an ominous sign and usually indicates relapsing disease. Renal amyloidosis is well described in the advanced stages of HD.108 In contrast, renal disease in NHL is more heterogenous and often presents with renal dysfunction along with proteinuria. Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and crescentic glomerulonephritis are somewhat more common, though a variety of other histopathologies have been reported.109110 Treatment of the lymphoma usually results in improvement of renal function.
