Soluble Interleukin2 Receptor

The interleukin-2 (IL-2) receptor is defined by reactivity with CD25 monoclonal antibodies and is expressed on the surface of hairy cells.32 Soluble forms of the receptor (sIL-2R) are detected in the peripheral blood of hairy cell patients, and can be used as a marker of disease response and relapse.25 33 We performed serial measurements of sIL-2R levels in patients after pentostatin treatment, and demonstrated that a rising sIL-2R value predicted hematologic relapse (unpublished observations). This is similar to data from other investigators, and is another means of following patients for disease progression. Additionally, it has been used effectively for determining response and predicting resistance.2533
