In most series there are more men than women (M/F ratio: 1.5). The impact of gender on prognosis is controversial, with some studies showing no difference in survival according to gender and others demonstrating a better survival for women. The longer life expectancy of women in the general population, as well as the fact that among women the disease tends to present with fewer unfavorable features than in men, might be the most likely explanations for a better survival in women with CLL (12,13).
