Color Flow Doppler

Color flow demonstrates the location, direction, and velocity of cardiac blood flow. Thus, flow acceleration can be estimated and laminar and turbulent flow differentiated.

Two basic colors are assigned according to the direction of flow. Red color indicates flow towards the transducer and blue color indicates flow away from the transducer. When laminar flow accelerates rapidly the intensity of the respective colors increases concomitantly. A mosaic pattern of colors is produced when flow is turbulent.
