General Injuries

Detailed documentation of injuries is an important and common request. The injuries may have occurred before or during the arrest, and documentation of such injuries may form part of the investigation to refute counter allegations of assault.

A record of each injury, as outlined in Chapter 4, should be made and basic first aid provided. Certain wounds may be treated with Steri-Strips or Histo-acryl glue in the police station (14), although occasionally transfer to a hospital will be required for further medical assessment (e.g., suturing or X-rays).
