In addition to trying to detect splitting of the second heart sound, listen for A louder-than-normal pulmonic the intensity ofA2 and P2. The aortic, or first component of the second sound component, particularly when at the base, is normally louder than the pulmonic, or second component. louder than the aortic sound, suggests pulmonary hypertension.
